Kolkata: In the recent events of the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case, the Sealdah Court has sent the main accused of the incident, Sanjay Roy, to 14 days of Judicial custody. An accused in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Roy was remanded in the CBI exposure till September 6.

Earlier, a special court in Kolkata allowed the CBI to take a polygraph test of the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Hospital Sandip Ghosh, and four other doctors. It was reported that these persons were with the victim, consuming a meal only several hours before the gruesome act.

The case has attracted a lot of attention because of the earlier-mentioned heinous nature of the crime. The dead trainee doctor, aged 31 years, was found in a partially clad condition in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The police estimated that the crime occurred while the victim was asleep between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. The medical examiner revealed that the woman was raped, throttled, and suffocated to death. The investigation showed that after several attempts to stab, rape and seriously cause grievous bodily harm to the doctor, the appellant, Sanjay Roy, throttled and smothered the said doctor to death.

Similarly, following court’s direction, the Kolkata police have submitted all documents related to financial corruption alleged to have taken place in RG Kar Medical College to the CBI. This is a progression of the case, which forms part of the sophisticated investigation which has now drawn interest in financial improprieties in the institution.

The permission of the court that was given to polygraph Sandip Ghosh and other doctors was intended to put forth the heinousness of the investigation as the CBI was aiming to find every detail about this brutal crime.
