The National Commission for Women (NCW) said on Wednesday that it has decided to take an independent cognizance into a highly alarming media report of sexual abuse of a young girl and virtual molestation of about 12 others at a bogus National Cadet Corps (NCC) camp in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. To this end, the NCW has come in to ensure that the issue has been investigated and that justice has been done.

Without wasting much time, the NCW has asked the DGP in Chennai to launch a serious and prompt probe into the incident. This is a testimony of the level of commitment the commission adopted while insisting that the accused must be charged under the legal provisions of the law. The NCW, in a statement put up on X (previously Twitter), said, “The National Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report titled ‘13 girl sexually abused at fake NCC camp’ from Krishnagiri Tamil Nadu,” adding, “The commission has written to the DGP Chennai for a fair and timebound investigation of the case and registration of the accused under the provision of the law. ”

Also, the NCW has asked the police and the state government to submit an action taken report within three days, making it clear that the authority is not taking this lightly.

The case has resulted in the detention of eleven people, as the head suspect, Krishnagiri district collector KM Sarayu, reported on Monday. This was so in regards to the rapport he had conducted with the police in arresting people associated with the sexual assault and abuse that took place at the fake camp.

Regarding the event, NCC has released a statement clarifying its position that it was not involved in the organization of a camp in the said area. The person who is alleged to have been involved in the action has no relation whatsoever to the NCC. Even the district administration has also clarified that the NCC was not responsible for conducting the camp, which has reiterated that the camp was fake and unauthorized.
