Jaipur: On Sunday, several hospitals in Jaipur, including CK Birla Hospital and Monilek Hospital, received rather terrifying bomb threats through email. These were sent around 7 am, and the police responded instantly. Police authorities and bomb experts were quickly deployed to the affected hospitals to secure the lives of the patients and hospital attendants.
The emails stated that bombs had been planted under hospital beds and in the bathroom, and the sender blamed the threats on a group known as “terrorists ching and cultist. ” A previous bomb threat was received on the same day the now-closed Ambience Mall in Gurugram, Haryana, which received a bomb threat but was discovered to be fake after a search.
Parallel, on the same day, a bomb threat was issued to a large mall in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, via e-mail, and the mall had to be evacuated. This threat turned out to be empty and was realized to be a hoax later. About 250 educational institutions across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) received similar letters and alarms about widespread school evacuations and searches in May. The response was overwhelming and contended PCR vehicles, district police, bomb disposal squads, and other agencies. After reaching such a high level of alert, nothing of the sort was detected, and the threats were later established to be a mass prank. The emails in that case were found to have originated from a VPN and a mailing service belonging to a Russian Firm, and thus, it was quite difficult to apprehend the perpetrator.
Following these incidents, the Union Home Ministry has underlined the need for the formulation of special strategies and SOPs as regards the threats that violent mobs may pose. Physical security has become more important and is taken as a standard requirement in schools by ensuring that schools and public places adopt measures such as closed-circuit television cameras and scrupulous checking of emails to ensure security is always enhanced.
