New Delhi: The Center established a committee on Friday to keep an eye on the situation at the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) in the wake of the recent wave of violence in the neighboring nation, where protests against the government are allegedly targeting minorities.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah made the announcement on social media platform X. He stated that in order to guarantee the safety of Indian citizens and members of minority communities in Bangladesh, the committee, which is chaired by an additional director general rank officer of the Border Security Force (BSF), will keep lines of communication open with their counterpart authorities in Bangladesh.
The committee’s members will include the ADG of the BSF Eastern Command, the Inspector General of the BSF Frontier HQ in South Bengal, the IG of the BSF Frontier HQ in Tripura, the Member (Planning and Development) of the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), and the Secretary of the LPAI.
Monday saw the expulsion of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina from the nation following demonstrations by Bangladeshi students. Since then, the nation has been the target of numerous attacks on Hindu temples and individuals belonging to minority communities.
Muhammad Yunus, a professor and Nobel laureate, took leadership of Bangladesh’s serving government on Thursday. In order to guarantee the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities in the neighboring country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India hoped for an early return to normalcy.
The BSF has already increased its attentiveness to the IBB and is preventing any unauthorized entry into India.
