The Ganga River’s water levels rose as a result of Uttar Pradesh’s heavy rains on Thursday morning, submerging the Ghats. By tomorrow afternoon, the Ganges is expected to rise by 40+ cm compared to yesterday at noon, Google shows caution if going near the riverfront.
Anand, a pilgrim from Delhi, claimed that he was unable to visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple and receive Lord Shiva’s blessings because of the intense rains. “I traveled from Delhi to this location to visit the temple and receive blessings. But it’s been raining a lot here, and we’ve been told not to go outside. A house collapsed yesterday, and the Ghats have now sunk here,” Anand said.
The houses in Varanasi’s Baghada, Salori, and Rajapur areas are now flooded, even though the river is still running below the danger line. Additionally, images from Prayagraj came out showing people commuting by boat.
“Prayagraj has been in a terrible situation. Our homes are experiencing waterlogging and seepage due to the Ganga’s increasing water levels. Our daily activities have completely stopped,” Prayagraj resident Shyam Pandey stated.
The Central Water Commission report states that the Ganga’s water level has been rising at a rate of four centimeters per hour and will continue to rise in the days ahead. The rising water level has caused the Ganga’s ghats to become disconnected from one another. The temples along the Ganga’s banks have also been overflowing with water.
Earlier on June 2024, according to some reports, dozens of vehicles parked in the Sukhi River were washed away after heavy rains. Sources reveal rainwater gushed into homes and left major roads in the pilgrimage town waterlogged.
