Responding to the controversies regarding the change in NCERT textbooks where they have removed the Preamble of the Constitution, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday said that they are baseless and Congress is indulging in deceitful politics. Categorically rejecting the allegations, Pradhan said that the syllabus of the NCERT has, for the first time, accorded correct importance and dignity to the Preamble, Fundamental Duties, Fundamental Rights, and the National Anthem in the re-drafted books.
Pradhan said that the enchantment of this constitutional provision fits well into the progressive identifications of the NEP, which seeks to nurture the child’s development. He accuses Congress of employing the education sector as a ground for political chicanery with their actions depicting a despicable approach towards India’s educational development. The minister called the Congress to stop the “politics of lies” and gain an understanding of the present state of Indian education instead of disrespecting it.
The Education Minister criticized the Congress for having always been against development and the education system of India and said that their contention that only the Preamble contains constitutional principles shows their ignorance of the Constitution. He tied the Congress’s position to a historical antipathy towards India’s growth, concluding that everything the Congress says is anchored in the same prejudice.
He further accused those Congress leaders of being hypocrites of the highest order, for the same people who are today so keen on the Constitution were the ones who eroded its foundation. He called on the Congress party to ponder over past deeds and, first and foremost, study the Constitution and the NEP instead of petty politics that deceive the common people.
Therefore, there are the arguments of Pradhan, who urged the Congress Party to demonstrate respect for the constitutional norms and values, provide constructive discussions on education, and cancel political stunts that were considered detrimental to the growth of the system.
