Ganderbal: The recent cloudburst in the Cherwan Kangan area of Ganderbal district, Jammu and Kashmir, affected the infrastructure to a breathtaking extent; some of the strategic routes were closed. Srinagar Kargil Road is closed because of this cloudburst. There was overflow from a canal, and there was a lot of debris and mud. Further, the SSG road at Padawbal towards sonmarg-Gumuri has been damaged, thus causing transportation troubles in the area.
At the moment, road unblocking activities are ongoing as the authorities try to open the stretch. The cloudburst has caused much havoc in the area as paddy fields have been flooded, and several cars and other vehicles are buried in debris. Fortunately, there is no record of people losing their lives to the epidemic. The ADC of Ganderbal, Gulzar Ahmad, said that though there is debris in many areas, no loss of lives has been reported. District police, administrators, and private employers’ personnel are involved in the evacuation and in the process of removing debris from the road where the occurrence happened, as well as helping out those who were affected.
As for the requested information, the primary concern of the government of Himachal Pradesh in the aftermath of the cloudburst is to unblock the roads. People whose houses have been brought down by the debris have been evacuated with other people and moved to other safer places. Ganderbal’s Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Bilal Mukhtar, has warned would-be travelers to get off the affected roads until clearance is done. He also pointed out that some houses on a certain level have been destroyed, and authorities are now trying to find out the general situation.
For those who travelling towards the Srinagar-Leh highway or those who are planning to perform the Amarnath Yatra, civil authorities advise following the status of the road and waiting for the update from the respective district administration. The continuation is aimed at the guarantee of the secure and timely reconnection of the concerned areas.
