New Delhi: An email threat was received by a private school in Greater Kailash, South Delhi regarding a bomb, to which the school followed the directives and got evacuated and the bomb detection team conducted a search operation. The threat was later proclaimed by the officials as an empty threat.

The frightening email which arrived at around midnight informed the school management that there is a bomb planted at Summer Fields School. To this threat, the school management reasonably complied with SOPs prepared for these incidents. This entailed taking the students to safer grounds, and reporting the matter to the police without delay.

Principal Shalini Agarwal said that they got an email around the night, and they investigated it early morning today. She said that, “following the SOP, we evacuated the students from the building within 10 min of receiving the email”, “We informed the police and district administration.” She also shared gratitude towards the police, “We are thankful for the quick and adequate cooperation from police. “

On receipt of the threat, uniformed formed teams from the police and anti terrorism body.tensor team included a bomb detection team and a dog squad who conducted a search on the school compound. Police have stated that the search was intensified and there was no real act of danger discovered. Picking up where she left off Agarwal said, “There was no sign of frenzy among parents as the panic and inner turmoil was handled effectively during the evacuation and search drills.”

It is one of the numerous instances of hoax bomb threats that schools in the Delhi-NCR area have recently received. To these threats, the Union home ministry has in past stressed the need to have elaborate standard operating procedures and procedural manuals in the event of emergencies. The home secretary had called for more cooperation between the Delhi Police and schools to reduce reckless alarms and allows only proper response to threats.

The ministry also saw security as an area that requires attention and one of the suggestions made was the installation of surveillance cameras.
