Takhatpur: A prominent person suffered serious consequences when he tried trespassing on a drain’s property by occupying it and constructing a boundary wall. In pursuance of a complaint, the Naib Tehsildar of Takhatpur Tehsil has passed an eviction order against the drain encroacher, and a fine of ₹10,000 has also been imposed on him. This act of encroachment was done in the Nagoi Panchayat area, where the said influential person carved a nearly one-acre piece of land of the drain out by commission of this act.
The order of Naib Tehsildar suggested that the encroachment be cleared within three days only. This will not be well received; hence, there is a call for further legal process to counter the illegal act. This comes against the backdrop of the suspension of the local patwari accused of either condoning or actively participating in the illegality.
There are other similar cases of subsequent continued violations of the set-down norms regarding land grabs in the region. Before that, different issues of the Gokhale Nala in the Takhatpur subdivision became known. In that instance, a builder, namely Vinayak Plaza, was viewed as having illegally encroached about 22 dismal of the Gokhale Nala to develop a luxurious complex. However, the action of giving notice by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) was not enough as the reaction from the builder was not satisfactory, and it seemed as though the basic intention of the entire scenario was to mislead the revenue authorities.
Such acts of encroachment depict other forms of problems regarding land use and administration in the region, whereby influential people and builders have control of the whole process by violating the laws. The actions of the government and the officials involved in this matter, such as the Naib Tehsildar who evicted the settlers or the patwari who has been suspended, are some of the measures that aim at addressing some of these problems. Nevertheless, one has to notice that these measures and the general usage of land regulation policies stay highly questionable in terms of their efficiency in halting additional infringements and providing justice for all interested sides.
