New Delhi: On Monday, AAP workers protested near the Lieutenant Governor’s office in Delhi to seek an inquiry into the MCD officials in the wake of the asphyxiation deaths of three UPSC candidates in the Old Rajinder Nagar area of Delhi. The victims, two women, and one man, were choked to death in a basement library at Rau’s IAS Study Circle that was flooded due to severe rain that occurred on Saturday.

The AAP leaders can rightly blame the BJP for the state of health of Delhi’s drainage system. They noted that the BJP used to have an overall majority in the MCD up until recently when AAP clinched a victory. AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak further opined that there was a lack of development in core infrastructure segments over BJP’s long rule, and the drainage segment was one of the worst affected. Hearing this, Pathak stated, “Delhi LG tweeted last evening that no significant work has been done on the drainage system; this shows. Our party has only been in control of the MCD for six to eight months, so if the system remains faulty, it’s the BJP that is to blame. ”

Pathak also slammed the BJP over poor or no efforts to fix the infrastructural problems and demanded strict action against the MCD officers for their negligence in treating the drainage problems as soon as possible. He vowed to expose those guilty and asked whether the MCD commissioner had held any such review meetings and whether the Lok Sabha MP Bansuri Swaraj could think of the role of her party in enhancing Delhi’s physical Infrastructure.

The AAP workers and leaders protested outside the LG Secretariat carrying banners and went on a strike. They claimed that the officials had not done some desilting of the drains, which was supposed to be done, and this caused the floods.
