Raipur: The Health Department is now more vigilant after it received complaints of diarrhea in Muhadabari village of the block. 9 patients have been admitted to the local civil hospital. An elderly woman along with a pregnant woman have been referred to Rajnandgaon district hospital after their condition worsened. All the patients are residents of the same locality. The health department team is examining the villagers by setting up a camp in the village.
Patients admitted in the Civil Hospital said that they all drink water from the same borewell and also use it for other purposes. The patients admitted for treatment include Bharti Baghel 24 years, Punita Yadav 42, Rukhmani Tandon 20, Santoshi Jangde 20, Muskan Jangde 17, Jitendra Yadav 31, Ram Bilas Yadav 38, Manju 30 and Romla Bai 55 years.
Out of these, Bharti Baghel is pregnant, who has been referred to Rajnandgaon for better treatment, while Romla Bai has been referred to Rajnandgaon due to her old age. The condition of the rest of the patients is said to be stable. Villagers said that dirty water is accumulating around the borewell, due to which there is a possibility of spread of diarrhea.
Bijapur district battled highest number of diarrhea cases in 2023, exceeding 1300, followed by 1000 cases in Raipur. Dantewada, Durg, Balodabazar, and Dhantari have also reported significant cases. The cause of the outbreak was estimated to be contaminated drinking water with improper sanitation and poor hygiene practices. Moreover, the monsoon season further worsens the situation with stagnant water bodies.
