A huge crowd of job seekers turned up for a walk-in interview at Air India Airport Services Ltd in Mumbai’s Kalina, causing chaotic scenes. Thousands of job seekers turned up in Mumbai’s Kalina on Tuesday for the walk-in interview. The company had kept walk-in interviews for 2,216 vacancies for the post of handyman, a person who performs various repairs and maintenance tasks.

Videos of the crowd doing rounds on social media show thousands of people rushing toward the interview center. Some people can also be seen climbing vehicles and trees to reach the centre faster.

Commenting on the situation, George Abram, general secretary of, the Aviation Industry Employees Guild, said the recruitment process was mismanaged. “People were called for thousands of vacancies. They were called with demand drafts, but we told them not to take any money and that they will be called in later,” he added.

Earlier on July 12, a stampede-like situation was witnessed after about 800 persons turned up for walk-in interviews held by a firm for 40 vacancies in Ankleshwar in Gujarat’s Bharuch district, an official has said. Videos of a massive queue, marked by pushing and shoving as aspirants tried to get a toehold on a ramp leading to the entrance of a hotel where the interview was being held, went viral on Thursday on social media.
