On Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted various raids at the locations which were linked to Deep Malhotra. He is a well-known liquor baron and former MLA from the Shiromani Akali Dal, in Ferozepur and Faridkot constituencies in Punjab. The ED raids were conducted from the teams which arrived at the scene from Delhi. This started at around 7 AM in the morning and the ED raids also got the necessary support from the paramilitary forces.

Various residences of Deep Malhotra were targeted in such raids, with one of them being at Adarsh Nagar, in Faridkot, along with the office of his company. The home’s of his associates were also covered in the raid by the ED, as Ashok Bansal and Happy Singh were also involved with Deep Malhotra. The raid even extended till Malbros International Private Limited, which is a distillery owned by the Malhotra company. It is located at the Mansurwai village which is a subdivision for Ferozepur Zira.

Nature of ED Raids in Punjab

The reports say that the ED officials seized all the records which they found at the distillery and even focused on the financial irregularities which occurred in the firm. It was also reported that Deep Malhotra was not present in Faridkot at the time when the raids were conducted.

The actions taken by the Enforcement Directorate have been going on in this case which is linked to the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. Before this, the ED even conducted raids at Malhotra’s residence during October 2022. Gautam Malhotra, his son, was arrested by the ED later in February 2023, as he had his links with the previous investigations occurred at the premises. Later on, he was granted a bail in May 2023.
