Bhopal: Protesting against various issues, NSUI activists of Madhya Pradesh’s capital, Bhopal, demonstrated against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak, the nursing scam, and the Agniveer scheme. The demonstration which ensued resulted in near tension stood off by police after protesters attempted to storm the Chief Minister’s residence.
Police Intervenes
The event escalated to the level of violence after the police sought to prevent the activists from accessing the compound of the Chief Minister of the State. The assertiveness of the activists made the police use lathi charges, tear gas and water cannons to address the demonstrators. The incidents of force led to some of the leaders getting injured, among them being PCC Chief Jitu Patwari. Many of the activists were also detained during the scuffle.
To contain the situation, the police pack was very strong, and all areas of security were well-tightened. However, the measures that were taken by the police still confused the activists and proceeded to an exchange that caused so much commotion in the region. This led to a closedown of Link Road No.1 in Bhopal, disrupting the free traffic flow in the city in the form of a protest.
Leaders Response to NSUI Protest
Some of the leaders that turned up for the protest included PCC Chief Jitu Patwari and NSUI National President Varun Chaudhary, stressing the effects of the problems. Many people came out on the streets to protest against the NEET and the nursing scam for evidence of public distaste for the aforementioned scams.
Speaking to the media, M.P Congress President Jitu Patwari strongly objected to the police violence. He said, “Today, we came across use of force, water cannons, and tear gas, and it conveys a message that even if people voted for the BJP, their children’s future is being compromised; our protest continues, we will register an FIR tomorrow.”
