The Kollywood film Hindustani 2 starring Kamal Hassan hit the theatres on Friday, July 12 in Hindi and Telugu. On the release day, the film managed to rake Rs. 26 crores net at the domestic market. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar starrer Sarfira premiered on the same day and minted Rs. 2.4 crores net.
Hindustani 2
In the the sequel to Indian (1966), Kamal Hassan plays the role of Senapathy, who is shown as an ageing freedom fighter. Armed with the ancient martial art practice of India, ‘Varma kalai,’ the protagonist is bent on fighting off corruption. In Hindi, it is titled Hindustani 2 and in Telugu, it is titled Bharateeyudu 2.
The Tamil film marks the reunion of two prominent industry names – Kamal Haasan and director S Shankar and was reportedly made on a budget of ₹150 crore. Shankar co-wrote the script with writers B Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu and Lakshmi Saravana Kumar on board.
Sarfira
Sudha Kongara helmed the film which is inspired by events from the life of Air Deccan Founder Captain G R Gopinath. In Sarfira, Akshay plays the character of Vir Mhatre. Radhika Madan played the character of his wife, Rani Mhatre. Sarfira also features Seema Biswas in a pivotal role.
