Rahul Gandhi Manipur Visit: Rahul Gandhi will embark on his day-long visit to Manipur and Assam today. His visit comes days after he highlighted in the Lower House his concerns regarding the ethnic conflicts emerging in the North-Eastern State of Manipur. Also, this is his first trip to the state as the leader of opposition.
Ahead of his official visit, security arrangements were tightened as unidentified gunmen shot fire at 3:30 AM to 7 AM in the Meitei area of Gularthal in the Jiribam district.
Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Assam came after the state’s brutal battle with the flood situation impacted about 22.70 lakh people in 28 districts. Moreover, Manipur has been witnessing ethnical clashes since May last year leading to over 200 deaths in the state so far.
Schedule for Rahul Gandhi Manipur Visit
Rahul Gandhi shall arrive at the Kumbhigram Airport in Assam and head towards the Lakhipur flood relief camp. Further, he shall move to Manipur via road. On the way, he is expected to visit flood-affected victims of the Jiribam district and meet with internally displaced persons (IDP).
He shall also meet the IDPs in Churachandpur and Bishnpur’s Moirang. In the evening, the Congress leader is expected to meet both newly elected MPs of Manipur and hold discussions on the crisis with Governor Anusuiya Uikey.
