Ahmedabad: Rahul Gandhi reached Ahmedabad today for a day-long visit. The Congress leader will be meeting the families of Congress workers arrested on July 2, Rajkot game zone fire, Morbi bridge collapse, and boat capsize incident in Vadodra. His visit comes after the party managed a major win in Gujarat Lok Sabha elections 2024 in a decade.
Rahul Gandhi will also meet the families of the Congress workers who were arrested after a clash with the workers of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) outside Congress’ State Headquarters in Paldi area of the city on July 2.
According to the Gujarat Police, party workers from both sides engaged in stone-pelting that lead to five policemen injured. A day after the clash, Two FIR were filed by the Ellisbridge Police and five Congress workers were arrested. One FIR was registered against 450 workers belonging to both BJP and Congress. Another FIR was filed against Congress workers by the BJP’s young wing of Ahmedabad unit.
Rahul Gandhi will later meet the family members of all those who lost lives in various tragedies in the state including Rajkot game zone fire, the Morbi bridge collapse, and boat capsize incident in Vadodara.
Earlier on Friday, Rahul Gandhi raised questions about the claims made by the family members of Agniveer killed in the line of duty. Asserting the claims made by Ajay Kumar’s family members that they have not received any compensation from the government, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the family has not received any ex-gratia compensation. The family received Rs. 50 lakh and Rs. 48 lakhs from a private bank insurance and the Army Group Insurance Fund respectively. Gandhi shared a video regarding this on X and said that INDIA bloc would never let the armed forces to be weakened.
