A few construction workers may have been trapped beneath an under-construction wall that collapsed on Friday, June 28, in the Vasant Vihar neighborhood of southwest Delhi, according to media reports.
According to Delhi Fire Service officials, after receiving a call around 5:30 a.m. regarding the wall collapse, two fire tenders were dispatched. According to the NDRF, three laborers are trapped, though they do not yet know the exact number.
During Delhi’s early morning rains, the laborers’ temporary houses that were situated close to the construction site fell into the pit. Rescue teams of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, fire department, and civic organizations have been called in, and the laborers are currently being rescued.
Delhi has suffered major harm from the recent rains, including widespread water logging and severe traffic bottlenecks on the highways. Additionally, as a result of the rain, a portion of the roof at Terminal 1 of the Delhi-NCR airport collapsed, injuring six people and killing one.
Damage was also done to the parked cars by the compromised support beams in the airport canopy area. Additionally, a search is underway to ensure that no one else is under any vehicle.
AAP MLA Somnath Bharti allegedly told the media that Delhi’s infrastructure cannot withstand prolonged periods of rain, particularly because today was Delhi’s second-highest rainfall since 1936.
