New Delhi- Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reacted. In comments made by PM Narendra Modi about the emergency period, how long does the BJP plan to rule by this? As per a news agency quote, Kharge said, “He will say this 100 times. Without declaring an Emergency, you are doing this. How long do you want to rule talking about this?”
Earlier in the day, the PM, Narendra Modi, while interacting with the media persons before taking oath as an MP for the seventh time, referred to the Emergency era during Indira Gandhi’s regime. PM Modi recently highlighted that the new generation of India must remember the 21 months during which India was quasi-under lock-and-key and democracy restricted. “Tomorrow is 25th June. 25th June is the day fifty years ago, a threat to India’s democracy was put in place. Actually, new generation of India will not forget that the Constitution of India was totally rejected, every article of the Constitution was demolished, the country was made a prison, and democracy was completely extinguished,” he said.
The issue developed into a political tussle, especially with Kharge reacting to Modi’s address by referring to what he referred to as the unspoken Emergency of the past decade under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Defending the INC, Kharge said through a tweet, “Mr Modi, you are the one who constantly rams down our throat about the Emergency of 1975 that lasted for 21 months while you have forgotten the last 10 years of the Undeclared Emergency which ended by the people. The Indian people have rejected you, Modi Ji. Despite that, if you become the Prime Minister of India, you should start working… People want substance
Kharge lambasted Modi for speaking for more than his regular duration of time, which he said was an indication of Mahm0d continuing with his arrogance in spite of what he referred to as moral and political.
