Not often can one even think about doubting the inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja into the Indian playing eleven. When selected, he has been a regular player across all formats for as long as many of these cricketers can remember. His batting, bowling, and fielding efforts are unique and fundamental to a team. But one must note his form in the T20Is has not been the best recently. Due to this reason, in flat pitches, his bowling style is not at its best, and the kind of aggressive batting that is mandatory in the lower order of each team in T20 cricket is not suited to him.

He has failed to impress much in the IPL over the last three years, especially with the medium pacer target. As for the Chennai Super Kings, he has only been average at best during his time with the CSK. This year, he made only 267 runs, the highest in the last season, but he still made a negligible contribution to the team.

For some reason, Jadeja got promoted higher up the order for CSK due to MS Jadeja being a lower-order batsman, but he was not as effective with this move as was expected. Although he has shown glimpses of his talent all along, a consistent display of power hitting, which is crucial in T20 cricket, has been lacking for a while.

His bowling is best suited for turning pitches. Regardless of whether it is a wicket-taking spell, he usually chips in with useful tips and swipers to spinners and also on helpful pitches. Still, it is not effective on flat pitches. Able to regularly deliver, Indian selectors decided to persist with the experienced all-rounder for the T20 World Cup. However, he has not only failed to impress in the tournament’s early stages but also displayed poor performances in some games. He did not come to the ball and batted only one over in India’s victory over Ireland by eight wickets. Batting against Pakistan, he scored a duck, and the number of overs he bowled was 2, of which he gave 10 runs and no wickets.
