While the suspense over the successor of Naveen Patnaik as the next chief minister of Odisha is building up, a senior tribal MLA of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) revealed that plans have been made in the 78-member legislature party meeting slated for Saturday in the state capital, Bhubaneswar, in order to decide the choice ahead of the government formation for June 10.

As a senior MLA of Kuchinda, Sambalpur district, Rabi Narayan Naik also agreed that the Legislature Party meeting in the state is planned for Saturday to decide the name of the chief minister. On a careful analysis of the information provided, Naik said: ‘The parliamentary party is expected to depose its choice for the new chief minister on Friday while the communique is expected to be made on Saturday.’

The BJP parliamentary board, which is involved in momentous resolutions including the selection of candidates for the parliamentary or the assembly, the formation of the government, and the selection of a chief minister, has asked all the 20 BJP MPs from Odisha.

Some of the names that were considered for the post of chief minister are ex-Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram Puri MP Sambit Patra and Haryana’s national vice president Baijayanta Panda and the influential leader of western Odisha Suresh Pujari. However, it must be emphasized that up and until today, only Pujari remains an MLA, and he secured a win in the Barajarajnagar assembly seat.

The oath-taking ceremony is planned to be organized at Janata Maidan of Odisha’s Bhubaneshwar; it is likely to witness more than thirty thousand people. For the administrative coordination for the execution of the event, the state government has posted 50 officers, of which are nine IAS, one OFS, and 40 OAS.
