Umaria: The area of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh has been facing a dreadful trend of Tiger mortality. Later in the year, there was another discovery of a dead tiger in the reserve, which was estimated to have been killed almost 10 days prior. Such a horrifying experience has cast doubts on the ability of the reserve’s patrolling teams. Currently, a very extensive investigation of the case is being conducted by the reserve management.

The news of the tiger death, which has already aroused the reserve officials, came to light after the dead tiger was discovered in the Khusaria beat of the Panpatha buffer zone, as per the reports. The officials from the tiger reserve acted swiftly and immediately proceeded to the location to have a look at the scene. Tigers are thought to die from internal injuries because they rarely kill each other. The remains were found in an area near a stream with no trace of identification that could be seen – the bones were nearly all that remained.

The whole team has been infected from the carcass and also conducted by the postmortem examination as well as the final rites. Of particular interest here is the fact that, only a few days ago, yet another tiger was killed near the Panpatha core range forest area. The successive deaths of tigers have raised serious concerns over the monitoring facility of the reserve that is aimed at preserving the natural habitat of the wild animals.

Such a trend of seasonal deaths in Bandhavgarh is not only shocking but also very damaging to the reserve’s potential and role in tiger protection. Unless these incidents are checked, the park management’s negligence may cost the state its prized title of ‘The Tiger State.’ The title signifies the effort, hard work, and achievement of the state in protecting the tigers.
