It took five years for Mammootty and Vysakh to come together again for the movie “Turbo”, released on 23 May 2024, with a record spending of over Rs 60 crore. While some viewers could not find much to appreciate in the movie with Mammootty starring as Turbo Jose, the financial returns on the film have displayed a splendid show by crossing the Rs 50 crore mark during the opening weekend only. So, as it is running for five days, “Turbo” can potentially override “Bramayugam” in terms of all-India earnings.

Newly added details show that up till now, “Turbo” has grossed over Rs. 52.11 crores within the first four days of release. According to professional trades in the industry, it may touch Rs 57 crore if it continues its good run and should earn at least Rs 5 crore on the fifth day. More significantly, the Vysakh directorial has grossed about Rs 21 crore in the Kerala box office alone, along with the business of more than Rs 7 crore from other release centres in India.

Going by this trend, it can be expected that “Turbo” will gross beyond the lifetime collection of ‘Bramayugam’, which stars Mammootty and was produced by Vaishak EEG and released in February 2024. They include the period romance ‘Bramayugam’, a black-and-white movie directed by Rahul Sadasivan and produced by M.G. Srinivas, which grossed over Rs. 60 crore worldwide in theatrical release.

If this collection trend continues, it is likely that “Turbo” may become the first of the Malayalam dushman films to enter the hundred crore club within the second week of its release. The movie has not faltered at the box office since the decline of mixed reviews in many countries and heavy rainfall in Kerala. The much-hyped and anticipated action-comedy film is still a sure hit among all the target classes within Kerala and overseas, especially the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including the UAE.
