Rajkot: The Gujarat High Court has taken it upon itself to commence proceedings on its own accord after a fire outbreak at a gaming centre called TRP Game Zone in Rajkot that led to the death of 27 people. The court is expected to hear on Monday; the court may make directives to the state’s gaming zones as said by a new agency.
There were four children under the age of twelve, and by inclusion to worsen the situation of the tragedy. In response, a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed by the Gujarat government, travelled to Rajkot for the investigation soon after. The sitting of the SIT comprises Additional Director General of Police Subhash Trivedi and deliberated for some time in another conference hours and held that they are committed to submitting the report within the next 72 hours.
Speaking to the media sources, Trivedi appeared remorseful about the incident, as he vowed to check and identify those responsible while taking serious measures to forestall reoccurrence. On his part, Additional Commissioner of Police Vinayak Patel coolly affirmed that 27 bodies had been recovered while the three injured persons were in a satisfactory state.
Since there was excessive burning, the identification of the deceased was quite difficult; thus, a new method of collecting samples of DNA from the remains of the bodies and claimed family members was practised. To this day, inquiries regarding the source of the fire continue, and they still don’t know if it was of their own volition.
The tragedy led President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express their condolences to the victims and families of the deceased, as well as to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to know him about the situation and relief measures taken. There was assurance of ₹4 lakhs compensation for the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured in the aftermath by CM Patel.
Gaming zones in Rajkot city have been ordered to suspend their operations temporarily after the incident. Following the calamity, Rajkot Police Commissioner Raju Bhargava admitted that his office was investigating the cause of the fire.
