Bengaluru: A terrible road accident was reported on May 18 along the Bangalore-Tumakuru highway, where a KSRTC bus was involved. It is said that the bus lost control and ran into the dividing road divider near Madanayakanahalli bridge near Nelamangala on the highway.
Eight passengers, including the bus conductor and driver, were reportedly injured, as reported by the news agency. Although it caused a nearly one-hour traffic jam, police officers quickly verified all the passengers and ensured they got out of the bus safely.
The bodies of the dead were taken to a private hospital, from where they were moved to a government hospital in Agra. Common citizens took a proactive approach to ensure that the police responded immediately in order to avert the situation. This was captured on a video being shared on social media showing the bus being suspended in mid-air midway between the highway and the divider.
Reportedly, nine died on the spot, and ten are reported to be injured after a bus caught fire on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in the Haryana’ Nuh district. According to media sources, the bus transported pilgrims from Mathura and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh to Chandigarh. The reported sixty passengers were pilgrims from Chandigarh, Ludhiana, and Hoshiarpur, sources in the police station said. The reason for the fire remains unclear.
They pose great concerns about the need for road safety and safety protocols on highways to save travellers and road users from avoidable accidents. More recent findings on the reasons behind the two accidents have pressed the concerned authorities to enforce measures for greater safety and pursue improvements in the infrastructure that might lead to such kinds of accidents in the future.
