The Garhwal Divisional Commissioner on Wednesday said 11 people have died so far during the Char Dham Yatra, which started on May 10, in Uttarakhand. As per the latest reports, in the last 72 hours since the beginning of the Char Dham yatra on May 10, 4 people have reportedly died due to heart-related difficulties at the high-altitude pilgrimages.
The State government said that till May 14, 26.73 lakh people have registered on the portal to take the yatra that comprises four shrines Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. Through offline means, over 1.24 lakh people have registered for the yatra.
Earlier on Friday, 2 pilgrims passed away while returning from a Yamunotri temple trek due to cardiac arrest. The deceased included Vimla Devi, 69, from Uttar Pradesh, and Ramgopal, 71, from Madhya Pradesh. According to Devendra Patwal, district disaster management officer of Uttarkashi, “As per doctors, all the pilgrims died due to heart-related issues.”
Commissioner Garhwal and the Chief Minister’s Secretary have appealed to all the devotees not to come to the state for yatra without registration. To avoid unnecessary crowd, vehicles carrying unregistered passengers will have their permits canceled directly. unregistered buses and vehicles will be immediately stopped and sent back.
the transport department will hold a meeting with tour operators on the issues related to vehicles entering without registration or post-dated registrations or without trip cards. Appropriate action will be taken against unregistered vehicles at checkpoints.
