Kolkata Knights Riders (KKR) was severely affected when their lightning-fast opener, Phil Salt, excused himself from the team as he had to serve his country with the national team. The T20 World Cup is scheduled for June, and the England Cricket Board (ECB) advises all the selected players to come back for the T20 series against Pakistan.
The name Phil Salt is indelible in the minds of the KKR fans who witnessed his amazing performance. Being signed into the squad as a cover for the Jason Roy injury, Salt was unsold in the main auction, only to show his value immediately. In 12 matches, he collected 435 runs and took second place in the KKR’s list of top scorers. He held an aggressive strike rate of 182 and an average of 39.54 runs per inning.
The recent declaration by the ECB mandated that all players who were shortlisted had to appear for the series against Pakistan taking place at Headingley beginning on May 22, 2024. This move also dealt a blow to other English players like Jos Buttler, Will Jacks and Reece Topley, who may also have left their IPL teams in order to join the country squad.
Salt’s resignation would be an enormous loss for KKR as they strive to overcome the lack of top performers. He made the top of the order invincible with his contribution and the missed presence of double ton will be signs of grief for KKR as well as the fans of this team.
On his departure, Phil Salt took appreciative and friendly leave, calling for the Knight Riders via Instagram post or spectre with the caption “#AmiKKR.” His post drew emotional responses from his teammates and the fans. KKR spinner Varun Chakaravarthy commented, “Hey Salty. …bye champ. all the best for the upcoming games.” They showed friendship and respect for the team.
