Varanasi: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi filed his nomination for the Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi, implying his third time contesting from this important spiritual centre in Hinduism. Along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a viral video showed PM Modi walking into the district magistrate’s office, where he submitted his documents. The officer warmly welcomed the documents, greeted PM Modi and offered him a seat. A priest was a companion of the Prime Minister to the office.
Originally from Gujarat, Narendra Modi contested the Lok Sabha elections for the first time from Varanasi in 2014. This nomination for the state’s governorship is another step that, along with the previous ones, confirms his strong bond with the city, which he often stresses as an essential part of his political and spiritual life.
Before submitting his nomination, PM Modi took a prayer at the famous Dashashwamedh Ghat on the river bank of the Ganga and visited the ancient Kaal Bhairav temple. He performed the aarti at the Dashashwamedh Ghat, thus indicating his high regard for the sacred place. After praying, he went by cruise ship to the Namo Ghat and then to the Kaal Bhairav temple, where he prayed while the Vedic mantras were being chanted. Yogi Adityanath was with him in these spiritual activities the whole time.
Before his visit, PM Modi posted on social media platform X and shared his strong bond with Varanasi, saying that his relationship with Kashi (the former name of Varanasi) is “amazing, inseparable and incomparable.” He said, ” My relationship with my Kashi is exceptional, inseparable and incomparable. .. all I can say is that it cannot be expressed in words. “On Monday, PM Modi led a splendid roadshow through the streets of Varanasi, and the city’s residents showed him an overwhelming reception. He uploaded a clip from the occasion, conveying his thanks for the immense love and blessings the Kashi people had given him.
