A lawyer from Agra has filed a case alleging that a Hindu temple exists on the grounds of a dargah (shrine) in Fatehpur Sikri. Lawyer Ajay Pratap Singh has confirmed that his lawsuit has been accepted by a civil court in Agra. According to his findings, the Dargah of Salim Chishti in Fatehpur Sikri which includes the adjacent mosque is the temple of Goddess Kamakhya. The advocate believes the disputed property was originally the sanctum sanctorum of Goddess Kamakhya, which is now under the Archaeological Survey of India. He claimed that references to Sikri, also known as Vijaypur Sikri, emerge in Baburnama, signifying its historical importance. He also strongly denied the belief that Fatehpur Sikri was discovered by Akbar.
Archaeological evidence quoted by the advocate, precisely led by former Superintending Archaeologist unveiled Hindu and Jain antiques dating back to around 1000 A.D., which is also referred to by E.B. Howell, a British officer, to the disputed property’s pillars and roof as Hindu sculpture, challenging its identification as a mosque. Moreover, as the lawyer claimed, historical records show that during the Khanwa war, Rao Dhamdev, the king of Sikri, transported the holy idol of Mata Kamakhya to safety in Ghazipur, establishing the temple’s ancient roots.
The lawyer asserted that once a structure is specified as a temple, its nature cannot be changed. The case was presented before a civic court, and the judge has issued notices. Earlier to this the advocate had filed a lawsuit alleging that an idol of Lord Krishna had been buried beneath the stairs of Jama Masjid.
Lawyer Ajay Pratap Singh asserted that nature of the structure cannot be changed once specified as a temple. Judge Mrityunjay Srivastava issued notices when the case was brought before a civic court. Previously a court case was filed by the advocate claiming that an idol of Lord Krishna had been buried underneath the stairs of Jama Masjid. Aasthan Mata Kamakhya, Arya Sanskriti Preservation Trust, Yogeshwar Shri Krishna Cultural Research Institute Trust, Kshatriya Shaktipeeth Vikas Trust, and Advocate Ajay Pratap Singh are the petitioners in this case. Meantime the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board and the Management Committees of Dargah Salim Chishti and Jama Masjid are the defendants.
