Bombay High Court Grants Interim Bail for 2 Months to Jet Airways Founder Naresh Goyal due to Medical Grounds. The court directed the imprisoned person to provide a bail bond of ₹1 lakh, and without its permission, he will remain in the city of Mumbai only. Justice NJ Jamadar, in his own chamber bench with a said, ordered it to provide for any just and fair treatment as conditions met.
The mention of Goyal’s request for interim bail due to health problems, which include cancer for both him and his wife, Anita Goyal, is 75 years old. ED held Goyal, the chairman of Avantha Group, for questioning in September 2023 about money laundering and misusing ₹538.62 crore loans from Canara Bank to Jet Airways. Her wife was arrested by the ED in November of 2023 when it had filed its (prosecution) chargesheet.
Rather, the special court disapproved of Naresh Goyal’s bail in February, but they granted his hospitalization for medical treatment. Through bail hearing, Goyal applied for the appointment of a judge, which was based on both case merits and medical grounds.
While in the court Goyal’s attorney Mr.Harish Salve emphasise humanitarian side highlighting not only the health problem of Goyal’s wife but also the mental pressure during these days. Salve mirrored Goyal’s desire to help his wife, who was hardly looking good. The court refused the plea by alleging the repudiation of a recent medical report. Venegaonkar, ED’s counsel, suggested a four-week extra term of Goyal’s hospitalization, after which his health status would be reviewed and assessed in the present circumstances.
The Court’s granting of interim bail in this case recognizes the severity of Goyal’s medical conditions and the humanitarian concerns he has expressed in his suggestions. Goyal’s giving up his passport and declaring his earnestness towards sticking to the terms of the court demonstrates his inclination to abide by legal rules and the prioritisation of his health and well-being.
