Mahasamund: In Chhattisgarh, regardless of the mafia’s illegal sand mining operations, only reports in the Mahasamund district talking about it still emerge. Worse still were sand mafias, who were still transferring sand with their trucks at night despite the awareness of the ban on the transportation of sand. During this particular case, Yatendra Sahu, the District Magistrate of Mahasamund, spent some time checking the content of a truck that he had already been noticed of. Nevertheless, once the land mafia had started to unleash some physical abuse against Sahu and his son, their next step at that time was to encourage violence from them.
According to sources, at 8:50 PM on Wednesday, sand mafia were clandestinely extracting sand from the Mahanadi river and loading it onto trucks. District Magistrate Yatendra Sahu and his son Vivek Sahu intercepted one such truck, questioning the driver about the legality of his mining permit. The driver confessed to lacking the necessary permit, prompting Sahu to report the incident to the district mining officer.
At this time, the robbers, moved by fear, also told the sand barkers about what had been going on. Therefore, taking advantage of the situation just days after the incident, members of the land mafia arrived at the place, including Jhala Chandrakar, a resident of Barbaspur and a person known amongst sand mafia circles accompanied by Vaibhav and Tarun. As they reached the target’s location, an intense argument followed, during which the mafia physically attacked Yatendra Sahu and Vivek Sahu, damaging their car as well.
The accused mob finally realized their mistakes and tended to give their helping hand in fighting the mafia war. SP Pratibha Pandey further adds that now the police have filed two FIR, and after the probe, they will decide which further action is required.
To the destitute community, the government has said that the illegal sand miners will be severely dealt with to defend those who implement their duties in trying to combat such immoral practices that have been on the rise.
