According to the latest media reports, the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has prohibited himself from contesting the Lok Sabha elections from either Amethi or Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh, which is the home turf of the Gandhi family, by declining to fight these elections from his constituency. Back from her campaign in Meghalaya, which, curiously, coincided with day 5 of the campaign, Gandhi has another rally in Pune scheduled for May 3. This is the last day for filing nominations for Phase 5, when Amethi and Raebareli go to elections on May 20th.

As Kharge is trying to counsel Gandhi and also inside sources feedback that Gandhi is still determined in his decision, it has been revealed that Gandhi is also trying to stand firm in his position. Even though he reportedly thought about standing for Raebareli, he has, however, made clear that he has no plans of seeking candidacy for these seats in case any of his family members are aspiring to.

According to the latest interview with the Samajwadi Party chieftain Akhilesh Yadav, Gandhi demanded his viewpoint regarding the match. Yadav also expressed a strong backing for Gandhi’s nomination, given the support he received from the people who removed him from office because they would elect him as their representative for every election that he ran and won from 2004 to 2014.

With the party schedule finalized, it appears Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi will not participate in this contest, with Rahul opting to remain in Wayanad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s consistent criticism of dynastic politics influenced Gandhi’s decision, anticipating it would provide fodder for attacks.

Although the party’s election committee authorized Mallikarjun Kharge to decide, Gandhi has remained steadfast in his stance. However, there is uncertainty regarding a last-minute change of heart.

The Congress party has remarkably fewer things to offer for these seats. Employees had a tendency to say that accepting Priyanka or Rahul as their leader would foster the state representative team. Sonia Gandhi, the only Congress MP from Uttar Pradesh in 2019, has now decided to leave (Congress) for Rajya Sabha with Rajasthan as her background.
