The support of a former Indian opener, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, has been given to Rinku Singh for the World Cup T20 teams. Srikkanth banged his voting power to Singh’s favor, who he felt was an obvious choice after his past performance, and brought him to the team of certainty. The options for the BCCI Committee, including Secretary Jay Shah and Chief Selection Committee Ajit Agarkar, will be filled on Tuesday to finalize the list of Team India that will partake in the tournament.

The primary focus of discussion in the meeting will revolve around all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s bowling fitness, a crucial aspect for India’s campaign. Additionally, the wicketkeeper’s position remains a contentious issue, with Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, and KL Rahul vying for the spot in a fierce competition.

Srikkanth stated his trust in Singh’s skills and that he was in phenomenal form on an international level despite limited IPL possibilities. To him, Singh’s consistency and possible contributions were of major concern and he addressed the selectors on this matter.

Nevertheless, the BCCI committee for the selection of the batters needs to introduce the issue of strengthening the middle order. Holding onto the fact that Suryakumar Yadav will most likely play while Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, and Tilak Varma will strive for the 6th spot in the squad. Singh has already been a leader in Team India’s batting lineup since 2023 and has proved his mettle, but Dube and Varma cannot eclipse him.

Furthermore, selecting the third opener presents another dilemma for the committee. Skipper Rohit Sharma is a certainty for the role, with speculation surrounding Virat Kohli’s potential promotion to the opening slot, supported by numerous former cricketers. The selection between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill for the remaining opener spot is anticipated, with the chosen player likely to bat at No. 3 in the lineup.
