On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stressed that neither the Congress nor the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC could be hindrances against the enactment and implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Despite the lawsuit, Sunil Jacob, the BJP president, addressed a rally in West Bengal and spoke firmly about this controversial measure. Simultaneously, he revealed that the BJP’s victory in the state is on their agenda in the next election.

Addressing the crowd at the Karandighi rally, Shah underscored, “Neither Congress nor Mamata Banerjee can dare to interfere with CAA.” He urged the public to denounce the prevalent “money culture” and support the BJP’s agenda.

Shah also explicitly stated the BJP’s election mandate for West Bengal, which is, “We have set a target of winning 35 Lok Sabha seats from West Bengal.” The election aim of the BJP is strict and tough due to unusually good results in the Lok Sabha elections by securing 18 seats of 42 seats out of the total seat of West Bengal.

Amit Shah`s comments on Mamata Banerjee and why they are not willing to grant Indian citizenship to Hindu and Buddhist refugees from Bangladesh and why it is so. He encouraged his country to reflect upon the implications of not letting the refugees acquire Indian nationality.

Shah further maintained that the real issue was that the present PM Modi leading his country was absolutely necessary for putting down infiltrations and violence in West Bengal. He raised the question of development funds rightfully accrued by the government of Modi and he denounced the alleged huge corruption within the TMC.

Highlighting the disparities in wealth accumulation among TMC leaders, Shah accused them of squandering public resources for personal gain. He admonished the TMC’s lavish lifestyle and purported misuse of taxpayer money.

The contentious CAA, enacted in 2019 to facilitate citizenship for non-Muslim refugees from neighbouring countries, remains a focal point of political debate. While the Centre notified the rules for the act in March this year, its implementation faces opposition from several quarters, notably from Mamata Banerjee, who has vowed to thwart its enforcement in West Bengal.
