Today begins the voting process for 92 assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The process of polling, which starts at 7 am and is set to finish at 6 pm, is supervised by the Election Commission of India, a Government agency. Election results are expected to be announced on June 2. 

On the same day, Arunachal’s electorates make use of their ballot to vote for the 60 members of the Assembly, while Sikkim’s electorates utilize their votes to choose among the 32 contenders running in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Arunachal Pradesh will go to an election to choose two MPs to represent it in Lok Sabha, while Sikkim will vote for the sole seat in Lok Sabha.

In Arunachal Pradesh, prime issues like infrastructure and border area development become the pole around the disc discussions of the election. A sum of 8,92,694 people will decide the fate of the electorate, being able to vote for the 133 contesters in the council of 50 voters and 14 Lok Sabha seats.

In the Arunachal West Lok Sabha seat, the contest is fierce between the Union Minister, Kiren Rijiju, and the former Chief Minister of the Congress Party, Nabam Tuki.

Meanwhile, in Sikkim, Chief Minister and SKM leader Prem Singh Tamang and former CM and SDF chief Pawan Kumar Chamling are among the prominent contenders vying for the assembly seats. A diverse pool of 146 candidates is in contention for the assembly elections.

Approximately 4.64 lakh eligible voters, comprising 2,32,381 male and 2,31,545 female voters, are expected to exercise their democratic rights in the state.

The electoral process in both states mirrors these exemplary moments in their respective political scenes, as the citizens can determine which way the state will move through their vote.
