Bhopal: The police carried out an operation along with excise authorities in the agricultural land of Kumbhargarh in the Chhindwara district, which is the stronghold of the leader of the Congress party, Nilesh Uikey. The raid sparked accusations of BJP’s Mohan and opposition leader Umang Singhhar, who openly criticized the ruling party.

Opposition leader Singhhar criticized the raid, stating, “The team of excise and police searched the residence of Congress MLA Nilesh Uikey in Pandhurna without a warrant! The search extended to the house, fields, and surroundings but found nothing! Based solely on a complaint, this action is nothing but an attempt to pressure the opposition MLA. There is nothing beyond trying to create pressure on the opposition MLA!”

Singhhar further targeted the Chief Minister, saying, “Mr. Chief Minister, your government is crossing the boundaries of political decency! Disturbing the opposition MLA without cause is not politics! How did officers dare to harass a tribal MLA without a warrant? This action by officers should be condemned!”

A media report claimed that as soon as other guilty elements, the excise and police team, arrived at the MLA’s residence, the voters complained about the cash and liquor distribution during elections. Yet, nothing matched the description, and a briefing paper on the case was created. It was the charges of illegal alcohol trade that pushed authorities to conduct the in-depth search.

The incident has, in many ways, mired politics into controversy, with the opposition camp accusing the ruling party of working hand in gloves with the state apparatus to neutralize opposition party members. The raid execs doubt, indiscriminateness, and the legality of consequences, mainly not under proper warrants. In the region, the political atmosphere is very much charged up as parties push and throw accusations and answer accusations during the preparations for the upcoming elections.
