Flight connectivity between Odisha’s Mayurbhanj and Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur via Raigarh-Raipur route is set to commence soon, as per a notification released today by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The Dandbos Airstrip, located on the outskirts of Raigarh city, has been incorporated into the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) regional airport development program initiated by the Indian government. In the initial phase, a designated flight with 19 seats will operate regularly between Raigarh and Ambikapur. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued a letter to Big Charter Private Limited regarding this matter.
It’s noteworthy that the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) of the central government had approved the allocation of funds for this during its 13th meeting on March 5. Additionally, under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of the Indian government, the development of Dandbos Airstrip is estimated to cost around 45 crore rupees. An official source stated that the development project includes a flight terminal building and several other amenities for passengers.
This initiative is expected to significantly enhance air connectivity between the two states, facilitating easier and faster travel for passengers. It also reflects the government’s commitment to improving regional connectivity and promoting economic development in remote areas.
The commencement of flight services between Raigarh and Ambikapur is anticipated to boost tourism, trade, and commerce between the two states, thereby contributing to their overall growth and development.
