Yanjio: A suspected gas explosion tore through Yanjiao, China, on Wednesday morning, causing widespread damage to buildings and vehicles. Reports from state media and social media accounts paint a picture of a chaotic scene.

The blast reportedly occurred around 7:55 am local time in a restaurant located on the ground floor of an old residential complex situated in the village of Xiaozhanggezhuang, Sanhe City. This location lies roughly 50 kilometers east of Beijing, China’s capital.

While the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation, initial reports point towards a gas leak. State broadcaster CCTV confirmed the incident and mentioned casualties had been taken to the hospital. The extent of the injuries and the number of people affected are yet to be officially disclosed.

Footage circulating online, captured by state media and shared on social media platforms, showcases the explosion’s destructive power. The disturbing visuals depict a massive fireball erupting, sending plumes of smoke and debris billowing into the sky.

Emergency services responded swiftly. According to the Langfang fire department, 36 emergency vehicles and 154 personnel were dispatched to the scene. Local media also reported that a shop owner in the vicinity described hearing a loud bang before witnessing the devastating aftermath.

Authorities are currently focused on containing the situation, ensuring the safety of residents, and providing medical attention to the injured. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion and prevent similar incidents in the future.
