An ancient statue of Sun God was found during digging in the field on Monday evening in Pakaria village of Gram Panchayat Chhulha of Kotma tehsil. While removing the root of a Nilgiri tree with a JCB in the field of farmer Hiralal Yadav, an ancient statue of Sun God of the tenth century was found.

On receiving the information, Kotma Police and District Tourism and Archeology Committee reached the spot late in the night. After examining the idol of archaeological importance found here, action was taken to hand it over to its custody. For security reasons, the statue has been kept safe in Kotma police station. Archeology experts say that this idol is from the 10th century AD, Kalchuri period and is of the Sun God.

This tenth century statue is three feet high, one and a half feet wide and 4.5 cm thick made of hard stone. When the villagers got information about the discovery of the idol, villagers from many nearby villages gathered at Hiralal’s house to see the idol and offer prayers. The villagers had darshan of the idol along with offering prayers.

While inspecting the found idol in the presence of Tehsildar and police station in-charge Kotma, Gram Panchayat Sarpanch, Rural and District Tourism and Archeology Committee member, action of spot panchnama was taken and the idol was handed over to the police station in-charge Kotma for safekeeping and with full religious faith, worship- After offering prayers, the idol was brought to Kotma police station in the official vehicle of Kotma police station and kept at a safe place.
