Karvdha: Santosh Pandey, the Member of Parliament for the Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha constituency, has successfully secured approval from the state government for the establishment of a medical college in the district. The government has granted administrative approval for the construction of the new medical college building, allocating a sum of approximately 306 crores for the project.
MP Santosh Pandey has been consistently advocating for the opening of a medical college in the district. In 2021, he raised the issue of healthcare facilities in the Kabirdham district during a session in the Delhi Lok Sabha, urging the establishment of a medical college. Subsequently, Pandey wrote a letter to the then Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan regarding the matter.
Later, in 2023, Pandey met with the current Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, urging the opening of a medical college in the district and submitted a letter to that effect. Following these efforts, the central government approved the establishment of the medical college. Now, the state government has granted administrative approval for the construction of the building, and Pandey expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and Chief Minister Vishnudeo Sai for their support.
MP Santosh Pandey highlighted that Kabirdham district is primarily a tribal region, emphasizing the critical need for better healthcare facilities for the local population. The absence of a medical college in the district has forced patients to travel to the capital city Raipur or other distant urban centers for medical treatment. The district’s proximity to major cities such as Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon, Durg, and Bhilai is approximately 150 kilometers, while the tribal border region of Kabirdham is around 80 kilometers from the district headquarters. People residing in tribal areas struggle to access proper healthcare facilities, leading to various challenges.
The establishment of a medical college in the district is expected to bring significant relief to the residents, providing them with better healthcare services. Additionally, it will contribute to the overall development of the district, fostering improved healthcare infrastructure and facilitating progress in the region.
