On Thursday, Delhi University’s Ram Lal Anand College received a bomb threat call at approximately 9:34 am, leading to a comprehensive response from law enforcement agencies. Responding promptly, the police, along with an ambulance, Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS), and Bomb Disposal Teams (BDT), arrived at the college premises. In the interest of safety, all students and staff were evacuated from the campus.
Following a thorough search of the college grounds, the police determined that the bomb threat was a hoax. DCP South West Rohit Meena stated, “A bomb threat call was received by the staff of Ram Lal Anand College, University of Delhi at around 9:34 hours. Immediately, police along with Ambulance, Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS), and Bomb Disposal Teams (BDT) reached the college and students were evacuated.”
Meena emphasized that after the evacuation, a comprehensive search was conducted throughout the college campus, revealing no evidence of an actual bomb. He added, “We thoroughly searched the whole college campus after evacuating the campus. There was no trace of the bomb… Whosoever has made that call, we are investigating it.”
Notably, the call was made from an international number, according to another police officer. The nature of the call, originating from an international source, raised suspicions of mischief. The police are contemplating registering an FIR (First Information Report) in connection with the incident.
The incident highlights the challenges posed by false threats and the need for vigilant responses to ensure the safety of educational institutions. Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the origin of the hoax call to hold the responsible party accountable for the disruption caused by the false bomb threat.
