Gwalior city in Madhya Pradesh is set to witness the inauguration of the state’s first Ashta Mahalakshmi Temple. The consecration will be conducted by Junapithadheeshwar Acharya Avadheshanand Giri, with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav presiding over the event on March 7. The temple’s consecration is believed to eliminate longstanding Vastu dosha (architectural imbalance) in Gwalior. The Mahalakshmi Temple, constructed by the temple trust, is associated with the prosperity and development of Gwalior.

Located approximately 20 kilometers from the city in Jourasi village, the ancient Hanuman Temple, managed by the trust, has undertaken the construction of the Mahalakshmi Temple. The inauguration events, beginning with the Kalash Yatra on March 1, will culminate in the consecration of the Mahalakshmi Temple on March 7, led by Junapithadheeshwar Avadheshanand Giri and attended by CM Dr. Mohan Yadav. Central Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Legislative Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, along with several state ministers, will also participate in the ceremony.

The Mahalakshmi Temple is expected to boost religious tourism in Gwalior, addressing the longstanding Vastu dosha issues faced by the city. Gwalior is traditionally associated with a deep connection to Lord Surya and Shani, contributing to the prevalent architectural imbalance. The city is known as the realm of Shani due to the ancient Shani Dev temple on the Ainti hill, where, according to legend, Lord Shani resided. Additionally, in 1988, a Sun Temple was constructed in Gwalior, similar to the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha. The simultaneous presence of Shani and Surya in the same area is believed to create architectural flaws, impeding the city’s development. The consecration of the Mahalakshmi Temple is seen as a step to alleviate these issues.

The trust received guidance from eminent scholars to build the Mahalakshmi Temple to rectify the architectural dosha. The temple, located near the Jourasi Temple, has already been constructed, with an estimated cost of around 15 crore INR. The temple will house eight idols of Mahalakshmi, with the main deity being 6 feet tall. Other deities like Dhanalakshmi, Dhanya Lakshmi, Gaja Lakshmi, Shanta Lakshmi, Veera Lakshmi, Vidya Lakshmi, and Vijaya Lakshmi will have statues of two feet each. The idols, crafted in Jaipur, incorporate special marble stones.

The consecration of the Mahalakshmi Temple is anticipated to bring prosperity to Gwalior by rectifying architectural imbalances and promoting religious tourism in the region.
