Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, is set to witness the transformation of the Sultanania Hospital premises into a second major district hospital. The state government, having shifted services from Sultanania Hospital to Hamidia Hospital, has allocated a budget of 100 crores for the development of a new district hospital at the vacated Sultanania Hospital building. The proposal for this project has been prepared and the Health Department is actively accelerating preparations for its implementation.
Upon completion, the bed capacity in JP Hospital is expected to increase from 400 to 640 beds. Health Department officials anticipate that within the next two years, government hospitals in the capital city will see an additional 810 beds. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to upgrade the Gandhi Nagar Community Health Center to a Civil Hospital, with plans to increase the bed count from 30 to 100.
Furthermore, the Kolar Community Health Center is also slated for enhancement, with the bed capacity set to rise from 30 to 50. This strategic initiative is part of the broader healthcare infrastructure development plan in Bhopal.
Currently, Bhopal boasts 351 private nursing homes and hospitals, offering a total of 19,772 beds for patients. With the influx of new investments in the private sector, the bed capacity is projected to increase substantially, reaching a total of 21,132 beds. This comprehensive expansion plan aims to add a total of 1360 new beds across various healthcare facilities in the city.
The proactive measures taken by the Health Department indicate a commitment to address the growing healthcare needs of the community. The infusion of additional beds not only enhances the overall healthcare infrastructure but also reflects a forward-looking approach to ensure the well-being of residents in Bhopal and its surrounding regions.
