In the Kotwali Thana area, a horrifying incident unfolded as the former owner of a dhaba, along with three accomplices, kidnapped and brutally assaulted a cook who had recently quit working at their establishment. The victim, Veerendra Patel (35), had left his previous job due to harassment from the ex-employer and started working in Mahasamund. The cook’s only fault was discontinuing his employment at the old dhaba. Subsequently, the police arrested the dhaba owner, Prashant Nibhavani (31), and his three associates.

According to Monica Shyam, the Kotwali in-charge, the incident occurred around 11:30 PM on Wednesday when Prashant Nibhavani and three others reached the Annam Dhaba in Kosrangi from Laveli Dhaba in Arang. There, they viciously attacked Veerendra Patel, who was employed at the dhaba, and forcefully took him to Arang by car, subjecting him to further assault. The perpetrators also assaulted Veerendra in Belsanda during the ordeal. Following the incident, Pradeep Sahu, the manager of Anam Dhaba, immediately informed the Kotwali police and the emergency number 112.

Upon receiving the information, the police team reached Laveli Dhaba in Arang, where they successfully rescued Veerendra Patel from the car trunk. Simultaneously, the police arrested four individuals involved in the kidnapping and assault, including Prashant Nibhavani.

Veerendra Patel explained that he had previously worked at the place in Arang, cooking food. However, he quit the job a few months ago due to harassment. Recently, due to a shortage of staff in Annam Dhaba, the ex-employer, along with his friends, pressurized Veerendra to return to work. The victim’s courageous decision to leave the job and seek employment elsewhere led to the brutal attack. The police have taken swift action, apprehending the culprits and ensuring justice for the assaulted cook. This incident underscores the importance of workplace safety and the need for a robust legal framework to protect individuals from such vengeful acts.
