Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has announced the revocation of the suspension of Opposition MPs from Parliament following an all-party meeting preceding the Budget session. The suspension took place during the Winter Session due to disruptions caused by the Opposition leaders, who were advocating for a debate on the security breach in Parliament on December 13.
Joshi assured, “All suspensions will be revoked. I have spoken with the Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Chairman, and I have also requested them on behalf of the government. This falls under the jurisdiction of the Speaker and the Chairman. So, we have requested both of them to communicate with the concerned privileged committees, revoke the suspension, and give them the opportunity to return to the House. Both of them have agreed.” When questioned if the suspended MPs would resume their parliamentary duties starting the next day, Joshi confirmed, “Yes.”
He explained that the suspensions were a consequence of Opposition leaders disregarding a unanimous decision in front of the Speaker and disrupting House proceedings with placards.
The Budget session, scheduled from January 31 to February 9, will witness Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presenting an interim budget on February 1. The decision to lift the suspension ahead of this crucial session signals an attempt to restore normalcy and ensure the participation of all MPs in the parliamentary proceedings. Joshi emphasized the government’s commitment to parliamentary decorum while expressing optimism that the revocation would facilitate a constructive and orderly Budget session.
