Hyderabad: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) honored the top men and women players for the 2019-20 season at a ceremony held in Hyderabad on Tuesday. In which former Indian all-rounder and head coach Ravi Shastri was honored with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ and former wicketkeeper Farooq Engineer was honored with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award. Along with this, Shubhman Gill and Deepti Sharma were much discussed in the program. Both the players were elected Best International Cricketer of the Year for India.
On receiving the award, Ravi Shastri said that this is an emotional moment for him. He said, ‘It is definitely an emotional moment. Thank you all for coming here. I thank BCCI for giving me this honor. It’s been four decades in the game and you are still associated with Indian cricket. Shastri further said, ‘It is a very touching moment for me because when I started my cricket at the age of 17 and ended it as a player at the age of 31, actually at the age of 30, During this period, BCCI remained my guardian. He further said, ‘He showed me the way to play the game. As Farooq mentioned, there was not much money in sports at that time, but there was pride in playing for one’s country. Regarding BCCI, he said, ‘I have seen BCCI develop into the most powerful board of world cricket in these 40 years. Many generations of players are benefiting from this. For me, this is a very special evening with the women’s team and the men’s team.
Ashwin won the Dilip Sardesai Award for finishing as the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket – 2022-23 (India vs West Indies). Ashwin also won the Polly Umrigar Award for Best International Cricketer of the year for the second time in his career.
Mohammad Shami, Shubman Gill and Bumrah got the awards for the best international cricketers in 2019-20, 2022-23 and 2021-22 respectively.
Kashvee Gautam, who recently became the most expensive cricketer in the history of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), won the Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy for the Best Women Cricketer (Jr Domestic)
Notable Indian women’s cricketers, Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma also won awards in the glittering ceremony.
Ravi Shastri and Farokh Engineer were bestowed with the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Awards.
