As of December 26 this year, Punjab Vigilance Bureau has apprehended 288 government officials and individuals in cases related to entrapment, criminal activities, and possessing assets exceeding known sources of income. Among those arrested, 66 are police officers, and 44 are revenue officials. The Vigilance Bureau’s statement mentioned that cases have been registered against seven political leaders and 70 government officials. During this period, a total recovery of ₹5,95,700 has been made in cases related to 133 entrapments.
The initiative against corruption, titled “Mukhyamantri Ki Bhraashtachar Virōdhī Kāravrāyī Hōṭalain,” commenced on March 23, 2022, inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. As of December 26, 2023, a total of 11,074 audio and video complaints have been received. Out of these, 5,740 complaints have been forwarded to the respective departments. Additionally, 630 complaints have been sent to various alert zones for investigation and action.
Following the examination of complaints, the Vigilance Range has filed 124 FIRs. Among these, 151 employees were arrested and subsequently released on bail. The spokesperson also disclosed that this year, Punjab Vigilance Directorate’s Flying Squad has filed cases against several politicians, police officers, and officials, accusing them of causing financial losses to the nation.
