The Economic Offenses Wing has apprehended an individual accused of swindling 11 crores from faculty members of JNU and IIT Delhi under the pretext of the Land Pooling Policy. The suspect allegedly duped individuals by promising them affordable flats, claiming to be associated with a non-existent scheme initiated by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Surendra Choudhary, revealed that the victimized teachers had filed a complaint with the Economic Offenses Wing.
According to the allegations, the accused, identified as P.D. Gayakwad, established an organization in 2015. He purportedly informed people that the entity was engaged in discussions to purchase L-zone land under the Land Pooling Policy, intending to construct budget-friendly flats. By luring unsuspecting victims with this proposition, Gayakwad enlisted them as members of the organization. Subsequently, he initiated the collection of funds under the guise of acquiring land.
In 2019, the accused allegedly sent emails to all members, notifying them of the formation of another organization. He informed them of the opportunity to become members of this new venture. Suspicion arose among the recipients, prompting an investigation that revealed the second organization was neither registered under RERA (Real Estate Regulatory Authority) nor was there any such plan approved by the Delhi Development Authority.
Following the complaints lodged by the victims, the police initiated a thorough investigation, leading to the arrest of the accused in Gurugram. The arrested individual now faces charges related to fraud, and the police are delving further into the intricate web of deceit spun by him. The case sheds light on the importance of vigilance and due diligence, especially in matters involving significant financial transactions and property dealings, to prevent unsuspecting individuals from falling prey to fraudulent schemes.
