New Delhi: The addition of 412 fresh Covid cases took India’s active cases tally to 4,170, the Health Ministry stated on Tuesday. Three new fatalities reported from Karnataka took the death toll due to the viral disease to 5,33,337, as per the ministry’s data updated at 8 am.
At present, India’s Covid case tally stands at 4,50,09,660, whereas the national recovery rate stands at 98.81 per cent, according to the ministry’s website. The Covid fatility rate stands at 1.19 per cent.
Amid the increasing risk of another resurgence of COVID-19 in 2023, the World Health Organisation urged countries in South-East Asia to strengthen surveillance given the increasing cases of respiratory diseases, including due to COVID-19 and its new sub-variant JN.1, and influenza. The WHO also urged people to take protective measures.
Amid growing concerns around the rising cases of COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1, a total of 63 cases of the sub variant have been detected in India till Sunday.
The highest contributor of the cases is Goa with a spike of 34 cases reported in a single day, cited Health Ministry sources on Monday.
Apart from Goa, nine are from Maharashtra, eight are from Karnataka, six are from Kerala, four are from Tamil Nadu and two from Telangana. In a sigh of relief, most cases reported don’t represent any clustering in areas. Moreover, most of the JN.1 subvariants have mild symptoms.
Meanwhile, the total number of active cases of COVID-19 in the country stood at 4,054, with the highest number of cases coming from Kerala.
“Thirty-seven COVID-19 cases are from Goa, 344 from Karnataka, 3128 from Kerala, and 50 from Maharashtra,” according to Health Ministry data.
