Gurugram: In a distressing incident in Gurugram’s Sector 53, an Uzbek national, Sobiroy Botir, faced a harrowing encounter with a gang of impersonators posing as police officers. Currently in Gurugram for a kidney transplant at Artemis Hospital along with his two brothers, Botir fell victim to a robbery where $16,000 was stolen from him. The incident unfolded around 9 pm on a Saturday as Botir and his brothers were returning to their hotel from a mall.

According to Uzbek national Botir’s account in the complaint filed through his hotel manager, Mohit Sehrawat, they were stopped by individuals in a car about 100 meters before reaching the hotel. The occupants claimed to be policemen, displaying what appeared to be legitimate ID cards. They ordered the trio to undergo a bag check, creating an illusion of authority.

As part of the orchestrated deception, after examining their passports, one of the fake officers seized Botir’s bag ostensibly for inspection. In a swift and clandestine move, the imposter surreptitiously extracted $16,000 from the bag and promptly fled the scene in their vehicle, leaving the victims bewildered and financially compromised.

Promptly following the incident, Botir and his brothers reported the robbery to the local authorities. The formal complaint triggered the registration of an FIR against the unidentified culprits under relevant sections, including 379A (snatching), 419 (cheating by impersonation), and 34 (common intention), at the Sector 53 Police Station.

Law enforcement officials have initiated an investigation and are leveraging CCTV footage from the vicinity to ascertain the identities of the criminals. The incident underscores the vulnerability of individuals, especially those seeking medical treatments, to sophisticated criminal schemes. The authorities are actively engaged in efforts to track down the perpetrators, ensuring a thorough investigation and delivering justice for the unfortunate victim, Sobiroy Botir. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of heightened vigilance and stringent measures to protect individuals from falling prey to deceptive criminal activities.
